Overview
In an environment of heightened audit and assessment activity, as governments take increasingly aggressive positions to pursue what they believe is tax avoidance or inappropriate transfer pricing, unforeseen and often massive income tax assessments can occur.
This current landscape challenges businesses to closely examine their tax risk management practices, monitor key legal developments, adjust tax planning and develop effective strategies for dealing with audits and assessments.
Osler lawyers will discuss strategies for effectively managing tax risk. Insight and analysis will be provided by members of Osler’s Vancouver office: the Honourable Marshall Rothstein, the Honourable Karen Sharlow and David Jacyk, former General Counsel for the Department of Justice Canada, and members of Osler’s National Tax Litigation Team: Al Meghji, Monica Biringer, Gerald Grenon, Amanda Heale and Joanne Vandale.
Discussion topics will include:
- Trends in the courts: Recent decisions and current cases.
- Dealing with the CRA: Issues arising on audit and in a tax dispute
