Overview

Intellectual Property Institute of Canada

In view of the ongoing crisis, effective March 16, 2020, CIPO granted temporary relief under Section 66 of the Trademarks Act, effectively creating an extension of time for deadlines in proceedings before the Trademarks Opposition Board. In the meantime, CIPO remains open for business on its usual business days and is promoting the use of electronic correspondence by clients.

Many agents and clients have questions about CIPO’s and the Trademarks Opposition Board’s operational status, how the designated days impact parties and their deadlines, and what will happen when this temporary relief ends.

 This webinar will cover:

·      Update on the current operations of TMOB

·      Understanding the time provisions in the Trademarks Act and Trademarks Regulations

·      Which deadlines are extended due to section 66 of the Trademarks Act

·      When and how to get an additional or retroactive extensions of time
