Join Osler’s Elliot Smith, Paula Olexiuk, Emily MacKinnon and Lia Bruschetta as they discuss BC’s new Construction Prompt Payment Act. Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan have all enacted prompt payment regimes in recent years, and BC has now followed suit. The legislation received Royal Assent on November 27, 2025, and is awaiting proclamation into force.
The legislation will bring transformative change to construction projects for owners, contractors, subcontractors, consultants and project lenders by establishing strict timelines for invoicing and payment, and by introducing mandatory adjudication as a fast-track dispute resolution process. Topics the Osler team will cover include:
