Robert has a broad litigation practice with particular emphasis on corporate and securities litigation and class action defence.

Robert has experience defending securities, consumer, competition and product liability class actions. His practice also includes mergers and acquisitions litigation, director and officer liability, shareholder disputes, valuation proceedings, oppression claims, Ontario Securities Commission proceedings, and insolvency and restructuring matters. Robert has represented financial institutions and other leading clients across a range of industries, including auditors, mining companies, retailers, pharmaceutical companies, utilities and other businesses.

Robert is co-author of the Canadian chapter in The Securities Litigation Review (an annual “year in review” publication regarding securities litigation around the world) and Defending Securities Class Actions in Canada.

    • Facebook, Inc. in the successful dismissal of the plaintiff’s appeal from an order denying certification of a proposed class action
    • The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. in its agreement to increase its ownership in DECIEM Beauty Group Inc.
    • Facebook, Inc. in the successful dismissal of certification of a proposed class action
    • Royal Bank of Canada in defending a proposed class action alleging conspiracy to fix foreign exchange rates
    • Target in connection with the wind-down of its Canadian operations under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act
    • Kinross Gold Corporation in a proposed securities class proceeding on behalf of Kinross shareholders alleging misrepresentations in Kinross’s disclosure concerning its Tasiast mine
    • Hydro One Inc. in defending a proposed consumer class action relating to customer billing
    • Groupon Inc. in a proposed class proceeding in which it is alleged that expiry dates on Groupon vouchers are not compliant with consumer protection legislation
    • American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and AIG Financial Products Corp. in a proposed securities class proceeding on behalf of AIG shareholders under the Securities Act alleging misrepresentations in the financial statements and other public disclosures of AIG
    • Mylan Pharmaceuticals ULC in defending proposed product liability class actions and other litigation across Canada
    • Teva Canada in defending proposed product liability class actions and other litigation across Canada
    • Pharmascience in defending a proposed product liability class action.
    • General Electric Capital Canada in the appeal of a transfer-pricing matter concerning the cross-border pricing of debt guarantees
    • General Motors of Canada Limited in the trial defence of a wrongful dismissal claim
