Osler is honoured to once again be recognized as a 5-Star Pro Bono Firm by Canadian Lawyer magazine, a distinction that recognizes law firms demonstrating exceptional commitment to pro bono service and access to justice across Canada.
“Our commitment to pro bono work reflects our belief that lawyers have an important role to play in strengthening our communities and supporting the organizations and individuals that help them thrive,” says Mary Paterson, partner in the Disputes group and a member of Osler’s Community Law Committee. “Whether we are advising a charitable organization, supporting a community initiative, assisting a social enterprise or helping an individual navigate a legal challenge, we are proud to contribute our expertise in ways that create meaningful and lasting impact.”
In 2025, Osler lawyers contributed:
- 10,453 total hours
- More than 53% of lawyers and students dedicated over 10 hours to pro bono work
Osler’s Community Law Program brings together lawyers from across the firm to provide pro bono legal services to charitable and not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises, community groups and individuals who might not otherwise have access to legal assistance. Through legal clinics, impact litigation, governance and transactional support, public-interest advocacy and strategic partnerships with community organizations, the program helps strengthen communities while providing meaningful opportunities for lawyers and students to contribute their skills and expertise.
Among the many organizations and initiatives supported by Osler in 2025 were:
- 115 hours at Access Pro Bono of British Columbia
- 472 hours for Trellis Society for Community Impact, Alberta
- 1,953 hours for Pro Bono Ontario
- 3,007 hours PBO/Income Security Advocacy Centre CERB Clinic
