Osler is pleased to announce that our Intellectual Property Group has once again earned the silver band ranking in both the Firms and Firms: anti-counterfeiting categories of the 2019 World Trademark Review 1000 — The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals (the WTR 1000). Six of our lawyers also earned special recognition in four categories for their “outstanding” legal expertise in various areas of trademark practice.
Osler was one of only four firms to be recognized in both the Firms and Firms: anti-counterfeiting categories. The WTR 1000 lauded Osler as a “prime choice for IP work in Canada” for its “superb communication, reporting skills and level of success. It’s a one-stop shop and always delivers.”
The firm also congratulates the following lawyers on earning 10 individual rankings across four categories:

Donna, Managing Partner of Osler’s Ottawa office, was praised by WTR 1000 as a “prosecution veteran with over 30 years of experience under her belt,” having “carved out an impressive niche in the entertainment and fashion spaces…” Donna’s practice focuses on trademark prosecution with a significant emphasis on proceedings before the Trademark Opposition Board.
May, who has 25 years of experience in advising clients on all aspects of intellectual property protection and enforcement, is “absolutely top-notch, a notable name in the trademark scene,” according to WTR 1000.
John was recognized by WTR 1000 as “a great litigator.” He has extensive experience in disputes relating to copyright, trademarks, domain names, trade secrets/confidential information, counterfeit products, misleading advertising, software licensing and IT projects, including disputes arising out of software development and software integration projects.
Lee, a registered trademark and patent agent, was lauded by WTR 1000 for providing “drafting that is straight to the point and succinct.” Lee’s practice has a strong focus on the structuring of comprehensive technology and IP licensing, joint venture, R&D and other related commercial arrangements having a strong focus on the exchange of technology and IP.
According to WTR 1000, “Kelly is fantastic. She always gives practical and proactive advice. Where she stands out is that she cuts to the important bits and avoids getting tangled up in non-substantive issues. She gets things completed quickly with no unforeseen complications or costs.” Kelly’s commercial practice has an emphasis on consumer protection, marketing, distribution and intellectual property matters.
Barry “inspires confidence. He’s always responsive and provides clear and concise advice with excellent attention to detail,” according to WTR 1000. Barry practises intellectual property law, with an emphasis on trademarks, domain names, anti-counterfeiting enforcement and copyright.
The WTR 1000 “shines a spotlight on the firms and individuals that are deemed outstanding in this critical” trademark practice area. Recognitions are based on months of extensive in-person and telephone interviews as well as client and peer feedback.
