Special Advisor Stephen Poloz has been appointed as an expert advisor by the Ontario government to the newly-created Panel for Utility Leadership and Service Excellence (PULSE). This advisory panel will support the government’s long-term plan to deliver reliable energy that is affordable, invests in job creation and powers Ontario’s future.
Ontario’s aging and capacity-constrained distribution system requires a significant infusion of capital, with the Electricity Distributors Association estimating up to $120 billion over the next 20 years to maintain existing assets. This level of investment for stronger and smarter power lines, digital grid management tools and new substations exceeds the province’s current spending trajectory for investment in this area.
The PULSE will provide recommendations on investment frameworks, operational best practices, and regulatory reform planning needed to deliver a reliable, future-ready electricity distribution across Ontario.
Prior to joining Osler, Stephen was the ninth Governor of the Bank of Canada, Canada’s central bank. Read more about his career.
