Osler is very pleased to announce that the excellence of our Intellectual Property Department has once again been recognized by IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals (the IAM Patent 1000).

In the 2020 edition of the prestigious rankings, Osler earned Silver status in both the Patent Prosecution and Patent Litigation categories and is Recommended in the Transaction category. According to the IAM Patent 1000, Osler is described as “effectively deliver[ing] on the big firm promise … the practitioners are responsive, timely in their responses and offer advice that is always commercially valuable.” In addition to honouring the achievements of the IP Practice Group as a whole, the IAM Patent 1000 specifically recognized four Osler patent lawyers for their expertise: Brad White, Vincent de Grandpré, Nathaniel Lipkus and Lee Webster.

Brad, who heads the Patent practice at Osler, earned a Silver ranking in the Litigation category and is recommended in the Prosecution category. The publication explained that he “straddles the contentious/non-contentious divide with poise” and praised his “unique ability to break down complex matters into easily understandable chunks.” In addition, he was described as “an excellent advocate before the courts” and a lawyer who “addresses any concerns or suggestions in real time.” Brad practises complex patent litigation and provides strategic advice on the enforcement of patent rights and the management of litigation strategies throughout multiple jurisdictions.

Vincent also earned a Silver ranking in Litigation. The IAM Patent 1000 described him as “diligent and smart” and emphasized his “knack for defining a patent’s position in infringement proceedings.” Vincent’s litigation practice focuses on intellectual property matters, including complex pharmaceutical patent litigation.

Described as “super-thorough and professional,” Nathaniel was recognized with a Silver ranking in the Litigation category as well. In the publication, he was praised for “doing some great stuff” in the heavily regulated industries. Nathaniel’s practice focuses on contentious legal issues confronting innovation-intensive industries, with an emphasis on patent and regulatory issues facing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Lee was Highly Recommended in the Transactions category. The IAM Patent 1000 commends his leadership, claiming that the firm’s transactions practice is flourishing under him. Lee “ensures that business interests are protected both short and long term through his thorough analyses, negotiation skills and ability to strongly represent the companies he assists.”

Osler’s Intellectual Property Department is renowned for its diverse strengths, including excellence in IP litigation; expertise and innovation in patent and trade-mark prosecution; portfolio advising and management; and unmatched experience in helping realize the value of IP portfolios in mergers, reorganizations and other business transactions.
