On August 12, 2022, Québecor, a Canadian leader in telecommunications, entertainment news media and culture, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Videotron Ltd. announced they had entered a definitive agreement with Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications for the acquisition of Freedom Mobile for $2.85 billion, subject to regulatory approvals and closing of the merger of Rogers and Shaw announced on March 15, 2021. The combination of Freedom and Videotron will be able to create a strong fourth national wireless services provider using Videotron’s holdings as well as provide consumers in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario more choice, value and affordability.
