Ian Clarke

Ian Clarke

Ian is a senior associate in the Corporate Group of our Calgary office. Ian’s practice focuses on the energy and energy infrastructure sector, focusing on both the power and the upstream and midstream oil and gas industries, including renewables, energy storage, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), and liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as industries relying on this infrastructure such as data centre development in Alberta.

He has experience assisting clients on a broad range of matters and transactions, including asset acquisitions and dispositions, private mergers and acquisitions, project development, major capital construction, infrastructure and supply agreements, joint ventures, long-term commercial transactions, mineral and land interests, and commodity marketing (including carbon and clean fuel credits). Ian’s related experience includes drafting, negotiating and analyzing corporate and transactional agreements; managing project execution from the pre-Final Investment Decision (FID) stage to the commercial operations date (COD); and providing advice on deal strategy.

Immediately prior to joining Osler, Ian was the lead in-house counsel for the renewable projects of a global independent power producer. Ian also practiced law in the Energy group of a large Canadian national firm out of their Calgary office for over 6 years, where he completed secondments with two oil and gas supermajors.
