Evan Barz

Evan is a Partner in Osler’s Municipal, Land Use Planning and Development group, Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental group, and Disputes Department.

Evan’s land use planning practice involves development approvals for a broad range of clients, including private businesses, landowners, property managers, and municipalities. He regularly appears before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) on appeals under the Planning Act and Ontario Heritage Act. He also advises landowners and authorities on expropriations under both provincial and federal statutes.

Evan is a trusted advisor for environmental compliance advice, including extended producer responsibility, environmental permitting, transportation of dangerous goods, renewable energy projects, contaminated site remediation, toxic substances regulations and related matters. He also assists clients through the environmental aspects of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, land transactions, and debt and equity offerings.

Evan’s commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice is focused on environmental and land litigation. He has considerable experience conducting litigation, including civil actions, administrative tribunal proceedings (before the OLT and Ontario Energy Board), and defence of prosecutions.
