On May 2, 2024, Save da Sea announced the closing of a $650,000 Seed financing round. The round was led by BDC Capital’s Thrive Lab with participation from Spring, What If Ventures and York University’s YSpace. The investment will empower Save da Sea to accelerate its expansion in the US while furthering efforts towards establishing a sustainable and equitable food system.
BDC Capital’s Thrive Lab is an impact fund that will invest $100 million in equity and equity-like investments to women-led businesses. These companies seek to make a social impact that is tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals such as food security and responsible agriculture, health and well-being, education, reduced inequalities, and responsible consumption and production.
Save da Sea, based in Victoria, Canada, is a plant-based seafood manufacturing company. The investment in Save da Sea is Thrive Lab’s first.
