For the second year in a row, Osler is pleased to congratulate partner Faylene Lunn, and associates Lillian Wallace and Sydney Young on being recognized by Managing IP as Rising Stars in Canada for 2021. The Rising Stars publication, produced in association with the IP STARS guide, recognizes “some of the best up-and-coming IP practitioners in private practice who contributed to the success of their firms and clients,” according to the website.
Faylene, first included as a Rising Star in 2018 and who became a partner with the firm earlier this year, practises intellectual property law with a focus on patent litigation, including proceedings under the Patented Medicine (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. She has been involved in assisting clients on protecting and enforcing their patent portfolios in multiple jurisdictions. Faylene also regularly prepares infringement, validity and freedom-to-operate opinions, particularly in respect of pharmaceutical patents.
Lillian practises intellectual property law with a focus on intellectual property litigation, primarily in the area of pharmaceutical patent litigation. She has appeared as counsel before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
Sydney practises intellectual property law with a focus on trademarks, copyright, branding and domain names. She acts on behalf of clients across multiple industries, including music and entertainment, luxury goods and high fashion, beer and spirits, and software and technology.
This recognition follows on the heels of Osler’s industry-leading Intellectual Property Group taking top honours in several categories at the Managing IP Awards 2021 earlier this year. Osler’s IP lawyers were recognized as the Copyright Firm of the Year (Canada) and the Patent Contentious Firm of the Year (Canada). John Cotter, partner and Chair of the IP Group, was honoured as the Copyright Practitioner of the Year (Canada).
In addition, the IP Group’s work was recognized for three Impact Cases of the Year: Teva / Apotex Inc. v. Bayer, York University v. Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency and Yves Choueifaty v. Attorney General of Canada.
These results are on top of the IP Group’s impressive showing in World Trademark Review and Chambers Canada.
Our IP Group is renowned for its diverse strengths, including excellence in IP litigation; expertise and innovation in patent and trademark prosecution; portfolio advising and management; and unmatched experience in helping realize the value of IP portfolios in mergers, reorganizations and other business transactions.
Research for IP STARS covers contentious and non-contentious IP work, and inclusion in the rankings is based on extensive research and client interviews. Factors included in the assessment include expertise, workload, market reputation/track record, outcomes achieved for clients, and unique strengths in a given practice area.
