Sydney practises intellectual property law, with a focus on trademarks, copyright, branding, and domain names. Sydney acts on behalf of clients across industries, including music and entertainment, luxury goods and high fashion, beer and spirits, and software and technology.
Sydney’s practice includes trademark clearance, prosecution and opposition, litigation of infringement involving trademarks and copyright, brand strategy, and online arbitration of domain name disputes. Sydney also advises on intellectual property matters in corporate and commercial transactions, including licensing and acquisition, particularly in a variety of innovation-intensive industries and early-stage businesses.
Sydney has been recognized as a Rising Star in Canada for 2020/2021 by Managing IP, and she is active in the IP bar in Canada. Sydney regularly writes and speaks on copyright, trademark and general intellectual property issues and is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s Conference Committee. Sydney is also dedicated to the advancement of women in law and IP, as evidenced by her role on the Osler Women Lawyers’ Network, responsible for its Professional Development committee, and involvement as a mentor for law students through the Osgoode Women’s Network.
Prior to joining Osler, Sydney was the Director of Legal & Business Affairs with CONNECT Music Licensing and Legal Counsel with Re:Sound Music Licensing Company. Sydney also practised corporate restructuring law at another large Toronto law firm.
During her studies at Osgoode Hall Law School, Sydney completed an exchange to Trinity College Dublin. She also completed an exchange to the Chinese University of Hong Kong while completing her Bachelor of Commerce at Queen’s University.
