Osler is proud to announce the addition of 12 new partners and two new counsel across five of our offices, effective March 1, 2021.

New partners

Toronto

The Toronto office welcomed five new partners: Brett Anderson (Corporate), Christine Jackson, (Commercial – Franchise and Distribution), Amelia Miao (Corporate), Susan Newell, (Commercial – Health) and David Rankin (Litigation).

Brett’s practice focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions and private equity investments. He also has experience advising companies about their ongoing securities and corporate law obligations.

Christine has a diverse commercial law practice with an emphasis on technology, franchising and retail. She works with clients in a broad range of industries, including FinTech, emerging and high growth companies, consumer goods, food and beverage, private equity, artificial intelligence, financial services, apparel, real estate, automotive, hospitality and leisure, oil and gas, telecommunications, childcare, personal and fitness services and cannabis.

Amelia’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and general corporate matters. She acts for issuers and for underwriters on domestic and international public offerings, private placements and listing transactions.

Susan is a corporate commercial lawyer in Osler’s Health Industry and Cannabis Groups. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and commercial matters in the health and cannabis industries.

David carries on a general commercial litigation practice that includes appellate litigation, administrative and constitutional litigation, class actions, employment/wrongful dismissal litigation, and other general civil litigation.

Montréal

Jeremy Brisset (Corporate) is our new partner in Montréal. His practice covers many areas of corporate and securities law with an emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance, and he has experience acting for public issuers, financial institutions, investment funds and investment banks, as well as industry leaders in a range of sectors, including real estate, technology, retail, gaming, cannabis, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Calgary

Our Calgary office welcomed four new partners: Kelsey Armstrong (Corporate), Matthew Huys (Litigation), Bryce Kustra (Real Estate) and Shaun Parker (Employment and Labour).                      

Kelsey’s practice focuses on corporate finance and securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and general corporate matters. She has extensive mergers and acquisitions experience, having acted in plans of arrangement, hostile take-over bids, private equity transactions, share and asset acquisitions and complex restructurings.

Matthew practises complex, high-stakes corporate litigation, with an emphasis on energy, construction, and securities disputes. He advises energy companies on environmental and climate change litigation risk and counsels on commercial construction matters, acting on behalf of owners, contractors, and subcontractors.

Bryce is a commercial real estate lawyer dedicated to providing solution-oriented legal advice, with a particular expertise in infrastructure land law, including pipeline land rights and telecommunications facilities.

Shaun provides advice and representation to employers on a wide range of employment and labour matters, including advocacy and corporate aspects of employment and labour law.  His practice regularly involves employment litigation, employment-compliance, as well as mergers and acquisitions related work.

Ottawa

Our Ottawa office adds a new IP partner with the addition of Faylene Lunn (Intellectual Property). Faylene practises intellectual property law with a focus on patent litigation, including proceedings under the Patented Medicine (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. She also assists clients on protecting and enforcing their patent portfolios in multiple jurisdictions. 

Vancouver

Laura Webb (Emerging and High Growth Companies) is our new partner in Vancouver. Laura practises corporate and securities law with a particular focus on angel, venture capital, growth equity and venture debt financings, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters, including company formation, shareholders agreements, corporate governance and equity incentive plans.

New counsel

Osler is proud to announce the admission of two Toronto-based senior associates, Kristin Ali (Commercial – Privacy) and Chris Sheridan (Tax), to the role of counsel, effective March 1, 2021.

Kristin advises clients on a broad range of privacy and cybersecurity matters, including advising on data breach notification obligations, counseling on responding to multi-jurisdictional regulatory investigations, and providing strategic advice for managing inquiries from Boards of Directors, consumers, employees and media.

Chris’s practice includes corporate tax planning, including the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganization and cross-border transactions, as well as tax dispute resolution and tax litigation.
