Osler is pleased to congratulate associates Faylene Lunn, Lillian Wallace and Sydney Young on being recognized by Managing IP as Rising Stars in Canada for 2020/21. The Rising Stars publication, produced in association with the IP STARS guide, recognizes “some of the best up-and-coming IP practitioners in private practice who contributed to the success of their firms and clients,” according to the website.

Faylene, first included as a Rising Star in 2018, practises intellectual property law with a focus on patent litigation, including proceedings under the Patented Medicine (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. Faylene has been involved in assisting clients on protecting and enforcing their patent portfolios in multiple jurisdictions. She also regularly prepares infringement, validity and freedom-to-operate opinions, particularly in respect of pharmaceutical patents.

Lillian practises intellectual property law with a focus on intellectual property litigation, primarily in the area of pharmaceutical patent litigation. Lillian has appeared as counsel before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.

Sydney practises intellectual property law with a focus on trademarks, copyright, branding and domain names. Sydney acts on behalf of clients across multiple industries, including music and entertainment, luxury goods and high fashion, beer and spirits, and software and technology.

These recognitions are the latest in a series of accolades for Osler’s leading Intellectual Property team, and further exemplify the depth and breadth of our practice. Also in 2020, the group has been recognized for its trademark practice, copyright practice and patent practice, while several Osler lawyers earned status on Managing IP’s IP STARS list.

Our IP Group is renowned for its diverse strengths, including excellence in IP litigation; expertise and innovation in patent and trademark prosecution; portfolio advising and management; and unmatched experience in helping realize the value of IP portfolios in mergers, reorganizations and other business transactions.

Research for IP STARS covers contentious and non-contentious IP work and inclusion in the rankings is based on extensive research and client interviews. Factors included in the assessment include expertise, workload, market reputation/track record, outcomes achieved for clients, and unique strengths in a given practice area.
